Cancel Thryv Website: What Happens to Your Site and Domain
When you cancel Thryv after your initial term, Thryv's FAQ says your account and website are taken down, and its terms say the website design and any content Thryv created are Thryv's property, while your own content is released to you. Your domain is released only if it was yours to begin with, so if Thryv registered it, ask in writing for a transfer before you give notice.
Thryv operates in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Everything here comes from Thryv's published terms and FAQs. Some rules differ by country, and those differences are noted.
01 • the site itself
What happens to my Thryv website when I cancel?
Thryv's FAQ is direct about it. If you cancel any time after your initial contract term, your Thryv account is taken down, including features like your website. If you change your mind within 60 business days, Thryv says it can reactivate your account without losing your content or data.
After termination, Thryv's Terms say it may keep your information and account data for up to 13 months to provide transition services. The same sentence reserves Thryv's right to delete it immediately. So treat the 13 months as possible, not promised.
02 • design and content
Who owns my Thryv website design and content?
Thryv's Terms and Conditions (effective 18 September 2026) say that any content Thryv creates or supplies for you is Thryv's sole and exclusive property. They also say Thryv may supply similar content to other clients.
The Professional Website terms go further for the site itself. Content Thryv creates, and the composition and design of what it builds, belong to Thryv or its licensors. On termination, Thryv agrees to release your Client Content, meaning the content you supplied. It will not release content it owns or licensed from third parties.
Released to you
- Client Content: the text, photos and logo you supplied
- Your website's URL, if it was your domain originally
Stays with Thryv
- The website design and layout
- Content Thryv created or licensed for you
- Call tracking numbers (Thryv's FAQ says you cannot take them)
- Thryv SMS numbers, which the Terms say cannot be transferred to you

Can I keep my domain if I leave Thryv?
It depends on where the domain came from. The Professional Website terms say Thryv releases your website's URL on termination if it was your domain originally. Separately, Thryv's Help Center, in its section on domain-based Gmail, says Thryv prefers to manage your domain during the relationship and that if you part ways, its website team can transfer it back to you at any time.
| Your situation | What Thryv's documents say | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You owned the domain before Thryv | Released on termination | Confirm in writing it will be released, and to which registrar account |
| Thryv registered the domain for you | Not covered by the release rule in the website terms | Ask in writing for a transfer to your name before giving notice |
| Domain used for Thryv Gmail | Help Center says the website team can transfer it back | Ask for the transfer and plan your email move at the same time |
Either way, look up your domain on ICANN Lookup first. See how to get your domain back from a web company.

How do I cancel Thryv without it renewing?
Thryv's Help Center says its products have a 6-month mandatory term that auto-subscribes. The Terms say subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 30 days before the end of the current period. Shorter periods renew month to month; annual ones renew for another year.
- 1Find your current period's end date on your invoices or account.
- 2Count back at least 30 days and put that date in your calendar. Use the reminder form on this page if it helps.
- 3Send notice in writing through Thryv's contact page, as the Terms require, including your business name, phone number and address, addressed to Customer Service.
- 4Keep the confirmation. The Terms say termination takes effect when the relevant subscription period ends after your notice is received.
Australia and New Zealand
Thryv's Australia FAQ mentions a one-off setup fee of $350 including GST and cancellation fees within the initial period. The current Terms say Australian and New Zealand subscriptions renew annually after the initial period and can be cancelled with 30 days' written notice, with unused prepaid fees refunded. The FAQ and Terms word this differently, so check your own order.
05 • listings and profile
What about my Google Business Profile and listings?
Thryv's Terms say that, depending on your package, Thryv or its providers may create, claim, verify, edit and manage your Google Business Profile during your subscription. They also say that after listings management ends, listing partners may revert your business data to how it looked before.
Before you leave, make sure you are the primary owner of your Google Business Profile. Here is how.
