Leaving Scorpion: What You Get and What You Rebuild
When you leave Scorpion after your contract, its FAQ says you own your domains, content and imagery and receive your site's static files, design assets and content, but not Scorpion's underlying system. Scorpion says you then work with another vendor to rebuild the site on a CMS of your choice, so leaving means planning a new website.
Scorpion is clearer than most about this. Its FAQ compares its system to WordPress: you would not own WordPress either. This page explains what that means in practice.
01 • in scorpion's words
Do I own my Scorpion website?
Scorpion's FAQ says you own your website after your contract is complete. It then explains what that covers. The assets are yours: domains, content and imagery. The underlying system is not. Scorpion uses its own proprietary content management system (CMS). A CMS is the software that runs and edits the site.
Yours when you leave
- Your domains
- Website content and imagery
- Static files and design assets
- Accounts Scorpion transfers back, such as Google Analytics (GA4), Local Services Ads and social media
Stays with Scorpion
- Scorpion's proprietary CMS
- The live, editable website running on that system
- Features that depend on Scorpion's platform
02 • what static files mean
Can I use Scorpion's static files as my new website?
Static files are snapshots of your pages: the HTML, images and styles. They show what the site looked like and hold your content. They are not an editable website. Anything that ran on Scorpion's system, such as its forms, chat and tracking, will not run from them.
Scorpion says this itself. Its FAQ says you will need to work with another vendor to rebuild your website on a CMS of your choosing, such as WordPress or Drupal. So the files are raw material, and a good starting point, but the rebuild is a real project.

How long is a Scorpion contract?
Scorpion's FAQ says it typically requires a 12-month contract for its marketing technology and certain marketing services like SEO. Digital advertising services such as Google Ads, Local Services Ads and Meta are typically month to month.
The ownership answers in the FAQ refer to customers who leave after fulfilling their contract. Check your own agreement for the end date and any notice terms before you plan the switch.
04 • a smooth exit
How do I leave Scorpion without losing leads?
- 1Check your contract end date and notice terms.
- 2Ask Scorpion, in writing, for a list of everything it will hand over: domains, static files, design assets, content and account access.
- 3Confirm you can log in to your domain's registrar. Look it up on ICANN Lookup if you are unsure where it is.
- 4Confirm you are owner on Google Analytics (GA4), Local Services Ads, social pages and your Google Business Profile. GBP guide.
- 5Start the rebuild early, using the static files and content, so the new site is ready on day one.
- 6Point the domain to the new site, then check every form and phone link.
Keep your page addresses
If your old pages ranked well, ask for a full list of page URLs. Keeping the same addresses on the new site, or redirecting them, protects the search traffic you built.
05 • in writing
What should I ask Scorpion for before I leave?
Scorpion says it will make sure you have everything you need. Make that easy for both sides by asking for a clear list, by email, with a date.
- Registrar login or transfer for every domain you use
- The static files, design assets and content, as a download
- A list of every page URL on the current site
- Owner access to Google Analytics (GA4) and Local Services Ads
- Admin access to your social media accounts
- Primary ownership of your Google Business Profile
- The date your contract ends and when the site will go offline
Keep the reply. If anything is missing later, you have a record of what was agreed.

What should I rebuild my Scorpion site on?
Scorpion mentions WordPress and Drupal as examples. A custom site on standard code also works. Whatever you choose, make sure you own the code, the hosting account and the domain this time, so the next move is simple.
